Here is a simple visitor counter that I wrote in Perl. It uses per site file locking with automatic recovery if an errant lock ever gets left around. I could have used a database, but that would of been overkill for something so simple.

You can use the counter on your vox blog if you'd like. First, copy this text:

<iframe src="http://voxr.net/sitecount/?site=YOUR_BLOG_DOMAIN" style="width:150px; height:150px; overflow: hidden;" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Then, go to the design section on Vox. Click customize your sidebars, check the embed box, and click configure next to it. Paste that text and then change 'YOUR_BLOG_DOMAIN' to your blog domain name, for instance: xantus.vox.com or just xantus. Click both OK buttons and then check your blog!

You should also pick the small embed type instead of the default.

Now you can set your own color!

You can use this color picker tool to pick your foreground (fg) color and background (bg) color and get a new url for your counter.

You have to turn on your vox beta features in your account page first. Then embed will show up.

I don't know if anyone else cares or not...but...I changed the date on the post that I placed this in. I made it a year from now, so that it will always be at the top of my blog. I don't know if I will keep it there, I might get sick of it, but just an idea. :) Thanks again Xantus!

you forgot to add the code... you copied the urlcode from the colourpicker but you still have to paste it in the other code; paste it over the text in bold and it will work (Xantus, I hope you don't mind this post... ) ->

Thank you, Xantus. I installed your counter into my site. One thing I noticed is the counter (or perhaps any other code) didn't show to the public even if my entry was set to be viewable by the public. I set postings viewable by only family by default. So when I changed the default, the counter appeared to the public. I guess in the future users can control "viewable" setting for each code in "Organize" window.
